About Sugar and Spice

Hi! My name is Amy, and some of my happiest memories come from the kitchen.... That warm, wonderful place where you spend time with people you love.

When I was a little girl, I remember the weekly Bread Parties with my Bubby. It was a time when family dropped in and sat down at the table to pick at one of her freshly baked loaves of bread. Those loaves were hot from the oven, and I remember the steam rising as I pulled my piece apart, and I'll never forget the smell - that wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread.

Whether she was whipping up a quick batch of her Willy-Nilly Chili, making plenty of pies for the holidays, or any other cooking or baking she did, I always loved to watch my Mom in the kitchen. We didn't have to talk if we didn't want to - though that was a rarity - but I will always consider the time spent in the kitchen with Mom, among the best. Now, to clarify, when I say "watching my Mom in the kitchen", what I really mean is that while she did all of the big stuff, she always involved me in whatever she was doing - Whether it was hulling bushels upon bushels (yes, one summer my Daddy literally picked bushels) of strawberries for jam; using "butterfly fingers" to work little pieces of pie dough into a custard cup for her "baker's special" mini-pies; cutting veggies and fruits; or just watching her technique and then trying it myself, if I was in the kitchen with her, Mom always gave me what she called "an important job" to do.

As young children, my brother and I were fortunate enough to live within five miles of our maternal grandparents, and therefore got to spend an overnight at their house every Saturday night. Whenever my Bubby's oven timer would buzz, my brother and I would giggle and call out, "Bubby, your oven's calling you." While I have countless wonderful memories of growing up watching my Mom and Bubby in the kitchen, that will always remain my favorite.

Today, as a grown woman with a family of my own, I tend to consider my kitchen my sanctuary. Maybe it's because my Mom and Bubby always looked like they were having so much fun when they were cooking and baking, and they always looked so serene - no matter how tight their timetable. And though I may physically be alone in the kitchen, the memories always make it feel packed.

Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to getting to know you, and working with you to create delicious memories for all of your special occasions (or just because ...) I welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the finest everything-from-scratch baked goods that can come out of my kitchen.

Sweet treats for your special occasions (or just because ...)
